Announcing the return of the Charles J. Krog Memorial Chess Tournament. The attached flyer has all the information. Here's a quick rundown:

- No walk-in registrations!
- Tournament Format: Four-round Swiss System
- Three sections:
- Unrated
- K-5 with US Chess Federation (USCF) rating under 600
- K-9 with USCF rating under 900
- Sponsored by the Monsignor Welsh Council and the Holy Rosary School Chess Club

Monsignor John A. Welsh Council 4312 of the Knights of Columbus and the Holy Rosary Catholic School Chess Club will hold the 5th edition of their beginner’s chess tournament, named after deceased brother Knight and chess enthusiast Charles J. Krog, on Saturday, January 5th, 2008, from 9 am. to 3 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic School, 4841 Park Avenue in Memphis. The four-round tournament is open to all students in Kindergarten through 9th grade. Players will compete in three sections: an unrated section, a U.S. Chess Federation Rated section for students in Kindergarten through 5th grade with a rating under 600, and a Rated section for students in Kindergarten through 9th grade with a rating under 900. Trophies and chess books will be awarded to the top four finishers in each section. Those who keep score will be eligible for a best recorded game prize. Advance Registration only–no walk-in registrations accepted. Registration space is limited, and the organizers reserve the right to modify or combine sections to accommodate all players fairly. Registration form available at www.kc4312.org. Entry Fee $15. USCF registration (requires extra fee) required for all rated sections.
