We are conducting a three-hour refresher course for Holy Rosary's altar servers on Saturday, September 19. All current altar servers are required to attend. Lunch will be provided.

So, what topics should we cover?
So, what topics should we cover? Off the top of my head, I'm thinking:
* Postures (standing, kneeling, where to put hands, etc.)
* Processing while holding items and while not holding items.
* What to do during Communion (Stand if tabernacle closed, kneel if it's open).
* Dealing with taller/shorter priests when handling the Sacramentary and when washing the priest's hands.
* Participating vocally in the Mass.
* Being in place before the priest needs you to be.
* The two permissible reasons for leaving the Sanctuary during Mass.
* Finding substitutes when you can't make it.
* Doing a single run-through of a Sunday Mass.
There will be a Q&A time at the end, for the servers to voice any concerns they have.

This is an excellent list you have provided "off the top of your head.". If you get only half of that info across, the refresher will have been well worth it.
The only thing I would add is "anticipating" the need for the book being brought to the priest for prayer and not waiting until they hear the words "Let us pray.". There is an opening invocation line before the Collect that the priest can never do because the book gets there after the invitiation. Fr Timby used to do this every once in a while (it's an option for the priest), but the book would have to be there sooner to allow the option. If you watch the Bishop's Masses, you'll see the book is taken to him as the Gloria is just wrapping up. Our priests may never want to do this, but as it stands right now, they can't do it.
Just a thought.
Thanks for all you are doing. Let ke know if I can help you at all.

Also from Deacon Jeff:
What time does this begin? My boys will be attending.
Also, should I explore talking to Fr Martell about the idea of reducing the number of boys we schedule each Mass and possibly eliminate the need for servers at the 6:15?
Even my boys are starting to complain about "always" serving and I wonder if some of our other 24 servers are risking burn out.
Just another thought.
