Our 29th annual Women Religious Appreciation Dinner (Nun's Night) will take place on Sunday, October 1. We're inviting the religious sisters of the Diocese of Memphis to join us in the Holy Rosary Family Room. The social hour will begin at 4:30, and dinner will start at 5:30.

Need Lots of Volunteers

We always need lots of volunteers to pull this off. We need people to cook, serve, tend bar, decorate, clean up, etc. Please contact Kenneth Krog, John Haas or Mark Romer to volunteer.

Get Those Door Prizes and Goodie Bag Items

As always, we want to put together goodie bags for the sisters to take away with them. Also, we want to hold drawings for door prizes. To make this work, we need as many people as possible to solicit items from local businesses, or to purchase them. It would be great if we had enough door prizes so that all of our guests could come away with something.

Bring a Dish and the Family

Please feel free to bring your spouse and children with you. We are asking every family to also bring an appetizer or a dessert. The council will be preparing the dinner.

Adopt a Nun

We are asking for every adult attending to contribute $10 to defray the cost of the dinner. If you like, you can also "adopt" one or more of the sisters for $10 each, to pay for their meals. Donations should be sent to FS Mark Romer.

Well, dinner went pretty

Well, dinner went pretty well. We had a total of 24 sisters attend. It was less than last year's 32, but one beneficial side effect of the lower attendance is that we had more door prizes than we had guests. Everyone got to take something home.

We also did not have as large a turnout of Knights as we usually do, so the guys who did show up had to put in a little extra effort. We had enough to get everything done, though, and everyone had a good time.

Later in the week, Peter McCann took some of the food to the Missionaries of Charity, and I took some to the Poor Clares.

A big thank you to our volunteers:

  • Dolores Ostrowski, who brought several appetizers and helped get us organized.
  • Kenneth and (especially) Jennifer Krog, who did everything from cooking to babysitting.
  • George Oswald and his son Andy, who also did just about everything. Andy deserves special mention for manning the sign-in table.
  • John Haas, who brought some delicious chicken and stayed to the end of cleanup.
  • And, certainly not least, Tom Wilkinson, who hardly ever left the kitchen except when he washed all the dishes.

Thanks also to Kevin Murphy and Robert Wright, who were unable to come, but who got donations of desserts and wine, respectively. Thanks a heap, guys!
