Knights of Columbus Launch News and Information Site for Catholics

Headline Bistro Logo

The Knights of Columbus have launched a brand-new Internet-based news and information service for Catholics everywhere – Headline Bistro. The new Web site provides a quick digest of daily news of interest to Catholics. Whether it relates to world affairs, politics or news specifically about the Catholic Church, you'll find links to the original sources here. You'll also find video clips, detailed state-by-state information about voting and public policy, and recommended books. The Web address is headlinebistro.com

I've also added the Church News feed from Headline Bistro to this site.  Look on the right-hand column on the front page.

Is She Really That Dumb?

This past weekend, Nancy Pelosi said some mind-bogglingly stupid things about the Catholic Church's stance on abortion. In particular, she stated that the Church started condemning abortion around 1950, and that it's still a matter of controversy within the Church.

I would attempt to respond, but Archbishop Chaput of Denver put it much better than I ever could:

Quote:
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is a gifted public servant of strong convictions and many profession-
al skills.  Regrettably, knowledge of Catholic history and teaching does not seem to be one of them.

Archbishop Chaput's letter responding to Pelosi's comments is attached.

June 23 Meeting Highlights

Here are some highlights of our June 23 meeting.

  • We conducted a First Degree, and brought three new men into the Council: Deacon Dan Brown, Morse Rose and Paul Simms.
  • We conducted officer elections, and elected our new board of officers for the 2008/09 Fraternal Year.
  • Adam Williams read a letter from Fr. Bill Stellini, outlining the fact that the Diocese of Memphis is having to cut back the stipend given monthly to each of our seminarians.  This year we will have 24 seminarians in the diocese, and the monthly stipend will only be $75 monthly for each of them.  Fr. Stellini asked that we consider trying to raise money to increase this stipend, in addition to the money we are raising for the seminarians' emergency use fund.
  • Prayers were offered for: Rita Clare Krog (broken femur and arm), Dan Romer (loss of strength from medication), Kathy Romer (loss of energy from pregnancy), Jim Cortese's mother-in-law (cancer), Deacon Fred Brunner (dialysis and heart problems), Carole Brunner (cancer), Audra Gavin (in a coma).
